What To Look For In a Billing Service


When making a decision on which billing service to choose consider the following:
  • Experience:  How long have they been in business, experience of the staff?
  • Do they have extensive experience in billing your specialty?
  • Do they have the necessary credentials needed?
  • Do they carry error and omissions insurance and are they bonded?
  • Claims:  How often are they sent, method utilized-manual or electronic?
  • Hidden costs:  Is the rate you’re quoted all-inclusive or are there other undisclosed costs?
  • How does the billing service receive your information? Scan, email, Fax, Courier, Mail.
  • What types of reports are provided?
  • What is their collection process?  Do they continue to work it or send it to a collection company?  What role do you have in this process?
  • Your first impression with them on the phone, in person.  Were they pleasant and professional?
  • Are they open to answer your questions or quick to get some sort of commitment?
  • Would you feel confident with your patients or colleagues having to speak with the billing company staff?  Remember, the billing company will be a reflection of your practice.
